What is that logo?

Full logo consisting of each other the three runic symbols, Burkana (or Berkano), Othala and Ehwaz

The logo you find on the homepage of this site is a personal sigil design based on its name, “Built of Error.” Anyone fascinated by Nordic lore, history and languages may find the logo reminiscent of Elder Futhark runes. If so, they would be correct. I used the runic alphabet letters commonly known as B, Berkana or Berkano, O, Othala, and E, Ehwaz, to signify the beginning letter of each word of the title as well as using the meaning behind the runes to guide my mission.

Berkana/Berkano runic symbol. In the logo, it is rotated and set at the top without its spine

Berkana or Berkano, depending on what source you’re reading from, is the rune most commonly associated with birth, growthand renewal. I found this to be especially ironic due to this blog being based around similar topics: self-improvement and renewalof the self, personal growth, and a rudimentary form of rebirth. I did sort of know Berkana’s meaning from memory. From there, I thought to confirm significances for other letters and see if I could piece them together in some way.

Othala, symbolizing the "O" for of in "Built of Error." In the full logo, it is connected to Berkana in the middle.

Othala is symbolic of ancestry (or roots) and genetics. While this doesn’t have an inherent tie to the blog or its entries, I will be mentioning anecdotes pertaining to my roots, which this rune signifies. I view roots as where you come from and what brought you to this moment, which is what I envision Othala to be. Runes have been used similarly to tarot cards, using meaning and readings of multiple runes to draw meaning upon a broad subject or specific question the reader asks. While they do have explicit meanings of each rune, the reader also has to use their own intuition to translate the runes in association with the others in the reading if more than one is used. That is how I viewed constructing the logo; using multiple runes that are technically the letters but also piecing each meaning together to come up with a broader message!

Ehwaz makes up the majority of the runic logo and looks very similar to our alphabet letter "M"

Lastly, the rune Ehwaz is seen as manifestation. To go deeper into Ehwaz, one would find it suggests steady progress, affirmation, and necessary change. This runic symbol has the most palpable connection to the site. Manifestationis a big part of personal change and growth. It is so much so that I am making a note to write a post on it later and dive a bit deeper into its core practice. At a basic level, manifestation is taking an intention to do or be something and bringing that to reality. Self-improvement is constant progress. No one is done bettering themselves, because no one is perfect. You must continue to make that necessary change to move towards enhancing goals, grounding yourself, etc.

The mission of this blog is to use my experiences and knowledge to help provide clear guides, recommendations and advice to the everyday person. Books and blogs exist for the CEOs and business professionals, but this one is for the retail workers, stay-at-home moms and raw people of the world. Anyone who has a passion for self-improvement and wants to learn can come here and find a community of people with similar goals and interests, because aren’t we all “Built of Error?”
